OB (Obstetrical) Technician

OB (Obstetrical) TechnicianSinging River Health System Hospital - Pascagoula Full-Time 7pm - 7am Pascagoula, Mississippi United States Position Overview The Obstetrical Technician provides basic nursing care (personal and restorative care) and functions as a member of the surgical team by assisting and passing instruments during surgical procedures performed in the Labor and Delivery unit.
He/She understands the procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
The OB Technician ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
He/She assists in the preparation of the room before surgery or delivery and is accountable for all items required for their surgical table, including all required instrumentation and sutures.
The Obstetrical Technician preforms routine clerical duties as needed within the unit.
The Obstetrical Technician performs duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Education High School graduate or equivalent required.
Successful completion of Surgical Technician program preferred.
License N/A Certification Current Surgical Technologist Certification preferred.
Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation; must maintain current BCLS certification.
Experience A minimum of one (1) year Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
Physical Demands Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities.
Work is moderately active:
involves standing with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the service area.
Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Employee is responsible for safely moving, lifting and handling all supplies, equipment and patients, with assistance.
Safe lifting practice is expected in all areas of job performance and employees are responsible to request help whenever needed, regardless of the weight, using available assistance, i.

Work is subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
Work involves using repetitive motions:
substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction.
Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone.
Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.
e.
shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision.
Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue.
Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.
Mental Demands Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of acute and chronically ill patients.
Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
Must demonstrate the ability to record observations and activities, to follow oral and written directions/instructions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high press situations and high stress levels during scheduled shift associated with care of acute patient/SO, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Special Demands Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.

).
Must be able to utilize the computer to record and retrieve data - including proficiency in utilizing the electronic medical record.
Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment based on approved scope of practice and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
Must possesses a thorough knowledge of AST process standards.
Must have a valid driver license as job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area with the employee providing his/her own transportation.
