External Job Description Outside Machinists in the marine environment are responsible for the installation of propulsion machinery, sea valves, steering gear, anchor handling equipment, elevators, pumps, ventilation fans, cooling coils, refrigeration units, compressors, weapons systems, remote operators, radars and antennas. In the process of installing this equipment, experience is gained in the use of math, blueprints, precision tooling, (i.e. micrometers, calipers, indicators) and portable machine tools (i.e. boring bars, facing machines, rail drills). Outside machinists are also familiar with the procedures for precision line boring, precision alignment of machinery, steel chock fitting, bolt fitting, bearing fitting, machinery assembly, surface machining, precision reaming, and machinery and weapons testing.
Basic Qualifications Must be a high school graduate or have completed your GED.
You must provide the following information at time of Intake Interview:
o Original High School or G.E.D. Transcripts (your diploma will not be accepted)
o Any college or vocational transcripts or certificates
o Driver's License or State ID
o Original Social Security Card (or form from Social Security Office stating you have applied)
o Original Birth Certificate
o DD214 if former Military
Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED
